The ICC Institute's Prize 2009
   The ICC Institute of World Business Law is pleased to announce that the second edition of the ICC Institute of World Business Law’s Prize for 2009 has been launched. The Institute’s Prize will be awarded to the laureate during the Institute’s Annual Meeting and 30th anniversary celebrations in Paris on 7 December 2009.

Taiwan Seeks Higher Compensation from Venezuela for Oil Assets
   Taiwan’s state-run petroleum refiner said it is seeking increased compensation from the Venezuelan government for oil assets seized in 2007.The Taipei-based company will seek international arbitration if talks with the Venezuelan government fail, he said.

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General:

   The Secretary-General welcomes the conclusion of the written and verbal arguments on the final settlement of the Abyei dispute before the Court of Arbitration (PCA) in Hague by the two signatories to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the National Congress Party (NCP) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).

   The Secretary-General commends the reiteration of the NCP’s and SPLM’s commitment to abide by and implement the decision of the Abyei Arbitral Tribunal.He encourages the two CPA signatories to achieve a peaceful final settlement to this dispute and to further strengthen their relationship as partners for peace in Sudan.

OVL seeks arbitration against Sudan government
   ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL), the international arm of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), has decided to invoke arbitration proceedings against the Government of Sudan to settle claims arising from the $200 million petroleum products pipeline project it has executed in that country.

"Lagos okays arbitration court" - Nigeria
   A BILL establishing Lagos State Court of Arbitration and Connected Purposes and another to provide for the resolution of disputes by arbitration and connected matters have been passed into law by the state House of Assembly. One function of the court of arbitration is to promote the resolution of disputes within the territory of Lagos State by arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution mechanism apart from litigation.

Croatia agrees to arbitration in border row, Slovenia reserved
   The Croatian parliament Friday agreed to international arbitration in a border dispute with Slovenia which has blocked its membership talks with the European Union. An EU member since 2004, Slovenia this year blocked Croatia's accession talks over the dispute dating from the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia.

AAA Introduces New Program for Commercial Insurance Disputes
  The American Arbitration Association recently introduced a new dispute resolution service -- the Complex Coverage Neutral Evaluation (CCNE) program -- specially tailored for commercial insurance disputes.

Cayman arbitration law under public review
  Cayman's Law Reform Commission has asked for public comment by 19 June on whether to adopt a version of the Model Law. The Law Reform Commission is asking for public comment and contribution regarding its review of Cayman’s Arbitration Laws.

The 14th Geneva Global Arbitration Forum
   Now in its 14th edition, the yearly Geneva Global Arbitration Forum is attended year after year by about 200 private practitioners, corporate counsel, arbitrators, academics, trade diplomats, company executives.
The range of subjects discussed is wide – commercial arbitration, investment arbitration, WTO-type interstate dispute settlement system. The Forum indeed truly believes in cross-fertilization between the various dispute settlement methods.
