1. For adapting to the demands of international arbitration market and facilitate the development of international arbitration undertakings, the symposium on “Latest Updates and Prospects of International Arbitration Rules”, jointly organized by Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC) and Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC), was grandly held in International Conference Hall of BAC.

2. “Logistics Arbitration Center” of Xiamen Arbitration Commission was formally founded. 1.Gabon faces ICC claim from Chinese oil producer

A subsidiary of Chinese oil and gas group Sinopec is seeking US$300 million in an ICC claim against Gabon over rights to an oil field, while the central African state is counterclaiming for double that amount.

2.New Arbitrators for Joint Panel under Optional Arbitration Clause

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) have agreed to amend the joint panel of presiding arbitrators, established in connection with the “Optional Arbitration Clause for use in contracts in the U.S.A. – Russian Trade and Investment – 1992” (the “Clause”).

3.New Jersey Establishes a Mediation Program for Open Superstorm Sandy Insurance Claims, Notice of Which Must Be Provided to Eligible Policyholders by Friday, April 5

New Jersey has now joined New York in instituting a voluntary mediation program for insured victims of Superstorm Sandy with “open and unresolved first-party insurance claims.” The program became operative with the issuance of a Bulletin on Thursday, March 28, and insurers must provide all eligible policyholders with notice of their right to request mediation and detailed instructions about how to do so within five business days’ time, which is to say by Friday, April 5.

5.ICC publishes guide to letter of credit law in China

The International Chamber of Commerce’s (ICC) publication entitled The Law of Letters of Credit in China: Commentary and Materials on the Chinese Supreme People’s Court’s Judicial Interpretations of Letters of Credit (LC) offers immense help to anyone doing export/import business in China.
The publication, based on over 500 court case decisions, provides detailed commentary, in-depth explanations and critical analyses that help shed light on how Chinese LC disputes are resolved and the judicial interpretations that define China’s LC system.
