1. International Arbitration and ADR China Conference was held in Beijing
On November 29, 2012, The “International Arbitration and ADR China Conference” was held in Beijing. It was jointly organized by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and Wolters Kluwer. Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB), Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC) participated the conference as supporting organizations.

2. Dalian sets up securities arbitration center
On November 20, Dalian Arbitration Commission Securities Arbitration Center was formally established in the Securities Association of Dalian, which was set up by Dalian Arbitration Commission and Dalian Securities Regulatory Bureau with the purpose of settling disputes in securities sector in the jurisdiction of Dalian.

3. Establishment of Nansha International Arbitration Center On October 23, the opening ceremony of Nansha International Arbitration Center was held in Nansha Grand Hotel. Nansha International Arbitration Center, under the government support of Nansha region, was jointly established by the outstanding arbitration commissions and experts in laws, trade and economy from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

4. The Seventh International Commercial Legal Forum was successfully held in Shijiazhuang city
On Dec. 6, 2012, the Seventh International Commercial Legal Forum, jointly organized by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Mediation Center, Singapore Law Committee, Promotion of International Trade of Hebei Province and Hebei Lawyers Association and sponsored by CIETAC Hebei Office and CCPIT Hebei Mediation Center, was held in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province.

1. Italy: compulsory mediation procedure – Italian Constitutional Court rules invalid
2012-10-24
On 24 October 2012, the Italian Constitutional Court declared invalid the provision of Legislative Decree n. 28 dated 4 March 2010 which had implemented the “Compulsory Mediation” procedure for the resolution of certain disputes (article 5.1 of the “Decree”).

2. The SCC Experience in Investment Arbitration under UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules
2012-10-24
Recently, in Cairo, close to 120 attendees from 19 jurisdictions came together to discuss the different mechanisms for the resolution of Euro-Arab investor-state disputes. The discussions focused on the European and Arab institutional experience of the SCC and CRCICA in investment arbitration under UNCITRAL Rules.

3. Arbitration on Supreme Court’s Plate in American Express Case

In a federal antitrust case brought by restaurant owners against American Express, the Supreme Court agreed on November 9 to decide "whether the Federal Arbitration Act permits courts, invoking the 'federal substantive law of arbitrability,' to invalidate arbitration agreements on the ground that they do not permit class arbitration of a federal law claim."

4. Chartered Institute of Arbitrators hold International ADR Conference
2012-11-16
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators' international ADR conference, hosted by CIArb's Scotland Branch, took place in Edinburgh on 15 November.
The Conference themed ADR - the International Dimension, which took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, brought together experts in the field of international arbitration from across the globe with a wide range of topics presented by leading ADR practitioners.

5. Swedish Arbitration Portal Updated: Svea Court of Appeal grants partial enforcement of foreign award
2012-11-21
The issue of partial enforcement of a foreign arbitral award only with respect to the payment liabilities of the respondent was recently decided by the Svea Court of Appeal. In its ruling, the Svea Court of Appeal confirmed that in Sweden there are no procedural impediments to enforce only part of an arbitral award.

6. The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) elects Deputy and Vice President for 2013.
2012 -11-27
The biennial meeting of CIArb's Congress was held on 16 November 2012 and was attended by Trustees and representatives from the 36 branches based in UK, Europe, Africa, East Asia, Australasia, the Americas, and the Middle East & Indian Sub-Continent.
