New York – Beijing Lawyers Association Joint Symposium held in BAC

To provide a platform for the personnel of legal practice circles to contact exchange and share information and promote the growth of law profession community, as well as under the friendly support of BAC, New York State Bar Association Beijing Branch and the Arbitration Professional Committee of Beijing Lawyers Association jointly held symposium in the international conference hall of BAC on the evening of July 30, 2009. The director of international department of New York State Bar Association – Mr. Michael Galligan expressed congratulations on symposium from New York through overseas call, New York State Bar Association Shanghai Branch also attended the activity by means of remote video. The symposium was presided over by the president of New York State Bar Association Beijing Branch – Mr. Liu Chi, and the secretary general of BAC – Ms. Wang Hongsong and vice president of Beijing Lawyers Association – Mr. Jiang Junlu made live speeches, with nearly one hundred people from international law firms, transnational companies and domestic well-known law firms and the personnel of legal practice circles attended the symposium.

The former dean of the School of Law of Tsinghua University – Wang Chenguang made a guest host appearance on keynote speech, and the secretary general Mrs. Wang Hongsong made keynote speech of “Beijing Arbitration Commission: A Emerging International Arbitration Center”. The secretary general Wang Hongsong proposed, BAC already has the principal characteristics in common with other international arbitration centers in three aspects, such as upholding the independence and impartiality of arbitration Institutes, maximizing the absorption of international practices for arbitration rules and mediation rules, and constantly promoting the specialization and elitism of arbitrators team.

The personnel who attended the symposium generally reflected that the symposium has provided an opportunity for the participants to communicate as much as possible and establish contacts with the industry peers and increase their understanding on the arbitration and BAC.
