BAC Held International Commercial Arbitration Training
Together with Royal Approved Arbitrators Association in the UK

“Arbitration is only as good as arbitrators”. BAC knows well the deep meanings behind the famous words in the arbitration world-as an arbitration institution offering dispute solution services for the parties concerned, the selection and the training of the arbitrators directly determine the service quality and the internationalization degree of the institution. Since founding, BAC has been putting great emphasis on the relevant institutional building of the arbitrators as the first arbitration commission carried out the institutions like “arbitrator disclosure” and “any arbitrator is forbidden to act as the attorney of any arbitration case in the commission” that have far-reaching influence on the industry. With the gradually increase of the international commercial arbitration cases and the set of the goal of internationalization, BAC not only founded the first professional arbitrator training and certification course class in China in 2004 together with School of Law of Tsinghua University, but also insisted on holding a free study and discussion activity for the arbitrators per month at least since 2005. In addition, BAC has co-organized many training with famous international professional institutions. During Oct 28th till 30th, 2008, BAC and Royal Approved Arbitrators Association in the UK, East Asia Branch co-organized the first “International Commercial Arbitration Training Course Class” for over 90 participants including over 60 arbitrators under the BAC, the heads of legal affairs from some large-scale state-owned enterprises and foreign-related enterprises, lawyers from some law firms in Beijing, as well as the arbitrators from arbitration institutions in other cities.

With rich experience and relatively high professional level, Royal Approved Arbitrators Association in the UK is an international institution devoted to arbitration training and promotion. The arbitrators that have gone through its trainings and tests, as well as obtained a required grade of member qualification are always widely recognized by the international arbitration field. This training involved the application of the international arbitration law, the comparison of institutional arbitration and ad hoc arbitration, the analyses on the contents of “UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration” and “Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards” (i.e. New York Arbitration Convention), the procedure proceeding and arbitrament of international commercial arbitration, drafting out the arbitrament of court of arbitration, etc. The trainees who have participated in the training and gone through the test would obtain the qualifications equivalent to the middle-level members of Royal Approved Arbitrators Association in the UK (i.e. MCIArb).

Madam Wang Hongsong, Secretary-general of BAC made a speech in the training, “BAC is making great effort to forge its international brand all along. With the increasing enhancement of the reputation of BAC at home and abroad in these years, the international commercial arbitration cases accepted by BAC rapidly increase. The first mediation case BAC accepted is an international commercial case after ‘Mediation Rules of Beijing Arbitration Commission’ put into force on April 1, 2008. Besides international commercial cases, many foreign-funded enterprises and outstanding domestic enterprises also require BAC to offer internationalized arbitration services in domestic cases. Therefore, it is very important and imperative for arbitrators to study the knowledge and experience of international commercial arbitration. That is why BAC actively co-held this training.”

Madam Zheng Ruohua, Chairman of Royal Approved Arbitrators Association in the UK taught the course in this training together with other 4 senior arbitrators from Royal Approved Arbitrators Association in the UK. Due to the sound effect obtained in this training, in consideration of the feedbacks from the arbitrators and professionals of legal practice, BAC will continue to expand the cooperation with Royal Approved Arbitrators Association in the UK in the international commercial arbitration training.
